Transitioning into a New Stage of Life
The Latest Update
Hill City Church is currently in a discerning and transitioning phase of life as a church community. As we continue our discerning process, please email with any questions you may have regarding our gathering times, future plans, or values and way of life. We will update our website as soon as possible.
What is happening at Hill City Church?
Our church first came together in 2010 when small group of church burnouts began asking the question “Is there anything more to this whole church thing?” For the most part, the faith experience many of them had was more about filling a pew, participating in a program, and/or consuming a product than it was about participating in the kind of radical Kingdom life Jesus describes in the Gospels. They felt like there was a lot missing from their faith experience. And so they ventured forth…
As our church continued to develop, we entered into the messiness that comes with intentional community living, discipleship, and logistical change. Our values and practices centered on community living and growing in the likeness of Jesus. Each ebb and flow of community life through these years has brought its own joys and struggles, ups and downs, and celebrations and times of grief. One notable phase of Hill City came in 2014 when we launched a public worship service at Kenmore Middle School. While these services were engaging, creative, and oftentimes fun, they were ultimately unsustainable for our small congregation to support. Moreover, we found too much of our attention drawn to running the Sunday services, rather than the holistic vision for faith we had worked so hard to procure in our earlier years. So we made the decision in the spring of 2017 to suspend our public worship service and re-engage our congregation in the community in a process of asking what God has for us next.
Today we continue to process what is next for Hill City Church. While many rhythms remain up in the air, we continue to meet on Sunday mornings for breakfast and worship, and we continue to welcome new folks to join us. If you are looking for a community to become a part of or somewhere new to call home, or even if you’ve joined us before and have been uncertain how to belong while we have been in transition--if you are willing to join in this strange phase of life we find ourselves in, we would love to have you. Please email Jeff at email@example.com for more information about our meeting times and locations throughout the week.
